Projects We Have Worked On
Nocatee Parkway
Provided Engineering Support for a highway project in Florida.
The Nocatee Parkway is a limited-access freeway that provides access to the Town of Nocatee, a 14,000-acre master-planned “new town” that spans the northeast portion of St. Johns County and the southeastern corner of Duval County. STV/Ralph Whitehead Associates provided design and post- design services for eight bridges and numerous other structures for the two-phase development, which recently opened to traffic. The road provides easy access to Jacksonville, I-95 and the new Florida 9B for residents of Nocatee and elsewhere. The parkway is also a critical hurricane evacuation route for area residents.
JFK Airport Delta Terminal 4
To streamline travel for customers passing through JFK International Airport, Delta Air Lines has embarked on a $1.4 billion terminal expansion and redevelopment program to consolidate operations from Terminals 2 and 3 to Terminal 4 and at the same time modernize virtually the entire facility. As part of a joint venture, STV is overseeing multiple construction management and general contractor teams completing landside and airside improvements during multiple phases. For Phase I, the firm served as the master construction manager for the renovation of Terminal 4. This included multiple Headhouse expansions, a 540,000-sf gate extension, taxi-lane and apron paving, utility infrastructure improvements, and environmental remediation.
Yadkin River Bridge
Leading a $136 million contract, the joint venture of Flatiron/Lane replaced the severely deteriorated, 60 year old Interstate 85/Yadkin River Bridge. Crews completed the dual bridges in roughly 14 months, and the NCDOT opened the new Yadkin River bridges to traffic in March 2012. The contractors achieved substantial completion for the remainder of the project in July 2013, eight months ahead of schedule.
Longfellow Bridge
After years of planning, design, careful attention to detours and the daunting feat of procuring the proper federal and state funding, work has begun on the reconstruction of the Longfellow Bridge, the critical vehicular commuter link connecting Cambridge to Boston over the famous Charles River. Total project cost was approximately $255M.
Bradley International Airport New
Terminal B Complex
STV is playing a critical role in the rejuvenation and expansion of Bradley International Airport. The firm is the design architect and architect-of-record for a campus of buildings which includes a new West Terminal B; a consolidated car rental facility and public parking garage; a central utility plant; and a series of enabling projects comprised of new roadways, utilities and vehicular plazas. The overall program is required to meet the State of Connecticut Sustainability Guidelines, which have been incorporated into the schematic design effort.
South Corridor Light Rail Transit Project
As part of a plan for a comprehensive transit system for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area, the Charlotte Area Transit System decided to build a light rail transit system. The first in the state, the South Corridor Light Rail Transit Project provides a modern, environmentally friendly transportation system while stimulating economic growth.
The first of five routes began operating in November 2007. As the Project Management Support Services Consultant, STV served as construction manager and provided engineering and architectural design review services, along with design review of signaling systems, communications systems, traction power, overhead catenary systems and fare collection systems.
Frenchman’s Cove Wire Wall
Provided engineering support and construction oversight for a unique wall project for the Marriott Chain in the Virgin Islands.
Fiber Optic Installations
We have done numerous fiber optic installations for many different companies including Pepsi, Continental Tire, Hertel Steel as well as for various townships in South Carolina and New York. For underground fiber, we install conduit and then pull the fiber through the conduit so if upgrades are needed in the future then we do not need to dig again.
NJ Transit Light Rail
In joint venture, provided program and construction management services for NJ TRANSIT’s Newark Light Rail Broad Street Extension. This one-mile link is an extension of the Newark Light Rail and connects Newark Penn Station with Broad Street Station in Newark. The $207.7 million project included five new stations that serve the downtown business district and major cultural and recreational destinations, including the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium and The Newark Museum. It also included a new 800-foot double track tunnel that connected to an existing tunnel. The line expands mobility and serves as a catalyst for economic development in downtown Newark.
